Paul Crochat sculptor
Natural, raw materials are my favourite choice for conveying an emotion, a life, a feeling.
In a few words
Paul Crochat is a wood and stone sculptor, trained under masters in Latin America and Italy after twenty years spent abroad. He works chiefly by direct carving in raw materials, revealing animals and faces within the imperfect matter. His expressive style brings his works to life : he seeks to capture presence and mystery, giving each piece an authentic, profound emotion.
Twenty years abroad, then the return to the Forez
Paul Crochat spent twenty years in Latin America, the United States and Italy, working for an NGO. During these stays, he also worked alongside several sculptors from whom he learned everything. His masters were Edival Pereira Rosas (Brazil), Raul Avila (El Salvador) and Luciano Campitelli (Italy).
Back in the Forez in 2018, he set up as a wood and stone sculptor. His technique is direct carving: he uses gouges, saws and rasps to shape the sculpture. His works can now be found in a dozen countries.
